Ya'Shalan (she/they) is a creative producer.
I make visual things for a living and feel purpose when making them with fellow queer black filmmakers. What encourages me are stories that explore the feminine gaze, afrofuturism, and the many faces of mortality.
When away from typing a script, I love coffee dates of all kinds, especially w/ creative producers to talk ideation and workflow.
Where possible, I always share film resources and insight that can support emerging filmmakers.
Outside of film stuff, you'll often see me collaborate w/ friends from home, Mandela Grocery, helping uplift their cooperative in Oakland.
I can be won by talks of third wave coffee, beer gardens, Y2K aesthetics, and Steph Curry's latest stat line.
I now live and work in Chicago, IL.
